Last week's best buy
Last week, I was wandering about Target in search of a decent tank top for working out. In theory, sleeveless shirts are fantastic for summer, unless you are like me and have Polish washerwoman arms. Alas, I need a tank top that covers a little bit of arm + body connective pudge.

Lucky for me, Champion makes such a top, originally titled C9 Running Singlette. (I got a nice fuschia and the blue...white is nasty after it's been to the gym a few times.)

Lucky for me, last week the shirts were on sale for 9.99 each! Not bad, seeing as how gym clothes are radically overpriced for what they are.

while this may not be a comment regarding sale items or special finds, i would like to note that i am currently in state of new hampshire, and during a visit to the local target for toothpaste and mouthwash, i became upset. i had been previously informed by someone in the past that all target stores are of the exact same layout, which meshes with the companies ideals of smart design.

sadly, i was misinformed and i could not quickly find the travel supplies, due to them being in a different location! the food court was also not to the right of the entrance, and there was a sale area to the left of the door entrance, not a 1$ area. poor shame!

Mrs. Meyers Clean Day hand soap was on clearance at my Target -- only 2.50 a bottle! It was just the lavender flavor, yet nevertheless, it was an unheard of price and I snatched some right up. All sorts of other items are on clearance again, especially in the homewares section...

a note from the targeteria management: we are not responsible for informing anyone that all targets are laid out in the same fashion. we at the targeteria management are full-well aware that they are not, and would never spread such false information. we, in fact, had a similar experience at the shiny new target in lancaster, PA just a couple weeks ago -- being completely unable to find the electronics section AND/OR the travel stuff! but the lancaster target does deserve special recognition for proximity to the "amish house & farm". it's possibly the only target with petting-zoo-turkeys pretty much in its parking lot.

Now at Target: Make Up Your Own Price Another weekend, another trip to Target. This time, the object of my journey was to pick up a gallon Rubbermaid pitcher to store my weekly vat of iced green tea. I find it, and naturally, select the only pitcher without a sticker. I get to the checkout, and here's the dramatic retelling of the ensuing unexpected discount:

Cashier: "This doesn't have a sticker."
Julie: "Drat, this always happens to me!"
C: "Do you remember how much it costs?"
J: "3.99?"
C: "3.99? This doesn't even look like Rubbermaid."
J: "I think it is."
C: Looks at bottom of pitcher. "Guess so. Huh. How about 2.99?"
J: "Ummm...sure."

So, two lessons learned: one, the quality of Rubbermaid pitchers has apparently gone way downhill. Two, the fixed price system is ruining salespeoples' ability to effectively negotiate...I should've been the one to lowball the price, right? Not the other way around? Hmm.
